Tuesday's assignment

Good morning,

Here is a listening activity, click on this link and answer the following questions:

1.     What is the speaker’s name and expertise?
2.     List all the different effective ways to learn new vocabulary that the lady has mentioned in her talk; use present simple tense to write the steps.
3.     How many parts in the talk?
4.     What is a ‘Word Journal’? What you need to do with it?
5.     What were the examples that she has mentioned with the words family and collocations?
6.     Use the following table to learn the new vocabulary and then add any new word that you find it hard for you:

  1. Her name is Christiane. She is a linguist whose area is vocabulary  acquisition.
  2. First of all, read books, articles, and literature to search more new vocabulary. Secondly, pay attention to the unfamiliar words and figure out how they're used in the text. Look it up or guess the meaning from the context. Then try to remember the new vocabulary. Write it down , look it up or guess the meaning, and make sentences with it. Remember the collocation with the new word. It's a good idea to make a "Word Journal".
  3. There are three parts. first, how to use materials and resources to find new vocabulary. Second part is strategies to learn new words. Last one is how to have fun with learning new words.
  4. It means to take notes with the new vocabulary. Write the new words down, make a list, update or review regularly, and categorize them in different ways.Finally, you create your own lexicon.
  5. When she refers to the words family, she says the noun "support", the verb" to support",the adj "supportive" and another noun "supporter". The examples of collocations are "black and white", make a mistake.
